Do you enjoy indoor or outdoor activities more?

1. Try Moving through Your Commute

Do you live fairly close to work? That gives you the perfect opportunity to fit in some activity. Instead of driving, build a few extra minutes into your routine and consider biking or walking to work. You’ll burn some extra calories and work your muscles and you won’t even have to find that much extra time.

2. Make Your Lunch Break Work for You

It’s so tempting to spend lunchtime hitting the drive thru and catching up in the gossip with your co-workers. However, you’ll feel so much better if you spend your lunch break getting in a workout. You can take a yoga class, go for a walk or head to the gym for a run on the treadmill. This way, when the work day is over you can go on to fun things without having to exercise.

3. Get Your Kids in on the Exercise

Having kids can keep any woman from making exercise a priority. I have three kids and if given the choice between hanging out with them or going to the gym, the kids would win every time. That’s why moms should get their little ones in on the action. Put them in a jogging stroll and hit the pavement. Play a pickup game of basketball with older kids or use the playground equipment for pullups and squats.

4. Consider Adding HIIT to Your Workout Routine

HIIT stands for high intensity interval training and it can maximize the benefits of your workout while also shortening the amount of time you have to exercise. The method works by alternating your normal pace with small periods of more intense times. For example, jog at a normal speed for 2 minutes, then go all out for 30 seconds. Go back and forth for 20 to 30 minutes.

5. Get Social when You Workout

Having some friends along on your workout allows you to get in some exercise while also getting to spend some time with people you want to be around. Get your friends to join you on a bike ride or join a dance class together. Not only does this keep you accountable since someone is waiting on you, but it makes exercise more enjoyable and easier to fit into your busy schedule.

6. Exercise While You Watch Television

So you made your choice and Netflix is winning out this time. That’s perfectly fine provided you catch up on your workout while you catch up on The Walking Dead. Use this time to do pushups, crunches, planks, calf raises, squats and triceps dips. You can also jump on an exercise tramp or lift weights while you watch. Cool!

7. Write It down

There’s something about seeing “go to the gym” written in ink that helps you stick with it. If you work exercise into your routine, it’s easy to stick with it. Pull out your day planner and decide when you can fit in a session, then write it down in ink. This will make the workout a priority so that you stick with it.

How busy are you? How do you make sure you still get plenty of exercise?
