1. Get Fit with Free Workout Classes

There are various fitness classes taking place at NYC parks that are at the cost effective price of free. Activities offered range from sunset yoga to total body bootcamps. All take place outdoors in various locations around the city. So chat with people that live by the city to find out the scoop of how you can get fit and save!

2. Join Stacy’s Bootcamp

Head to Central Park to get fit and fab while having a blast with Stacy’s Bootcamp! Stacy is one of those trainers that keeps it simple going back to the basics with her exercise approach. But her results are nothing but basic. She has transformed so many lives through her military workout routine of running, squats and pushups. And she embodies the passion that every successful trainer has to help you reach your goal. Take it from me as a trainer, her Bootcamp is worth the cost in volumes because it works.

Frequently asked questions

3. Join the NYRR

Do you love to run? Then join one of the largest and most active running groups in the country, the New York Road Runners (NYRR). NYRR has members of all ages and fitness levels that can help you to navigate the city and enjoy the sights. You can even bond over some running races together. Make friends and get in shape with NYRR!

4. Join the Bryant Fit Club

Spending a summer in NYC means free exercise classes to help you reach your goals. All summer long for free hour-long boot camps and barre classes (presented by barre3). Held Mondays and Wednesdays, before work, these classes are open to the public and have something for every age and fitness level. Now that is a great way to budget while getting fit in NYC!

5. Walking

One of the huge upsides of NYC is that it is often very easy to get around on your own two feet. Subways and buses can get you everywhere you need to go, but you can save $2.50 by walking instead. Especially if you're only commuting a mile or two and you need to use transfers, walking might even save you time on the commute itself in addition to hitting two birds with one stone.

6. NYC Gov

There are many recreation centers throughout NYC that you can get membership to for $100-150 per year. This is by far the least expensive membership for a gym I have ever seen. Some centers offer classes, some have pools, some have more equipment, some are better maintained – check on online reviews to find the nicest out of the ones most convenient for you.

7. Running Solo

But if you want to exercise solo due to time convenience of working out when you can. Central Park is filled with walkers and runners, perhaps as much as it's filled with people visiting the city. This is actually where the last segment of the NYC marathon is run. It is my favorite part of the marathon because it means you are almost there, just a few more miles!

Hope my tips helped you to make your plans to get fit in the city. So have a blast while you get your fit on and maybe even have some healthy NYC to pair with your workout!
