I was recently asked for my top reasons to try skiing – and I was a bit flummoxed. I mean, I’m by no means a pro. I’ve only been a few times, and I’ve managed to wipe out sensationally a few times. The resorts I go to probably increase their fence budget when they see that I’m coming back… I’d definitely recommend it, though, and after thinking about it, these are my top reasons to try skiing. It Does You the World of Good

It really does. Whatever is going on at home, you’ll be instantly refreshed with that mountain air, and you’ll be constantly kept busy exploring new parts of the mountain. There is simply no time for thinking about anything else, or moping around. It might seem like one of the oddest reasons to try skiing, but it’s an amazing one if you need an escape.


It Burns Calories

Skiing burns around 365 calories an hour. Fitness experts claim that you can lose up to 5 pounds during a week’s skiing, as it burns up to 3,000 calories. It’s actually fun, too.


It’s Everywhere

If you are in the US, you are surrounded by ski resorts. In the UK, we have Scotland. In Europe, there’s some of the world’s best ski resorts in Geneva, and that’s not to mention France and Austria. With budget deals and more luxurious stays being available in so many places, you’ll have a lot of choice, and you are certain to find something that will suit you.


Apres Ski

Yep. You get to stand around in your ski clothes in the snow, drinking schnapps and gluhwein, and dancing to electro pop. There is nothing funner. Everyone should try this at least once in their life, even if they don’t enjoy skiing that much.


It’s Good for the Body

Skiing isn’t just great for burning calories. It uses a lot of muscles, and you’ll soon see the difference. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’ll tone your stomach, refine your leg muscles and improve your overall cardiovascular system, and you can be sure that your blood will be pumping. It’s a proper, all-over workout – and it’s really fun, too.


It’s Fun

Yes, there is something very scary about throwing yourself down the slopes at super fast speeds. It makes you feel amazing, though. You’ll soon work out your limits, and whether you’re flying down from the top of the mountain or happier on the starter slopes, you’ll have a whale of a time.


Amazing Sites

Another of the best reasons to try skiing? It’s breathtaking. Even if you don’t make it off the starter slope, even if you don’t enjoy skiing and spend the whole week on the ground, you can see the whole mountain. Ski lifts are a relaxing way to see the views, or you can ski up and watch the world underneath you. It’s simply mesmerizing. You’ll have moments that you’ll treasure forever.

Of course, these reasons to try skiing will only tempt you if it’s something that you’re already interested in. If you hate being cold, or you hate the idea of throwing yourself down the snow, you might be happier chilling out in the lodge in front of the fire. If you have considered a skiing holiday, though, I’d totally recommend it. It’s great fun! Do you ski?
