Ways to make time to work out may not present themselves so easily when you’re a mom. As all mothers know, we have to work hard in order to get a little “me time”, especially moms who have other things on their plate. And paying for a sitter may not be an option if you are on a budget, or just prefer not to leave your children in someone else’s care every day. So, if you have been wondering if there are any ways to make time to work out without getting a sitter, read on because this is for you.

What's your favorite way to relax after a long day?

1. Fitness DVDs

One of the easiest ways to make time to work out without getting a sitter is to use a fitness DVD. Occupy your little one with some toys or a snack, or even wait until naptime. Then pop the DVD in and get to sweatin’. There are many workouts designed for moms on the go, from 10, 20, or 30 minutes long, or even an hour if you have it to spare.

2. Jogging Stroller

I love my jogging stroller! You may not be a runner but you can still use a jogging stroller to take a few laps around the block. A brisk walk burns calories, gets you fresh air, and helps fight cabin fever. You can gradually build up to jogging or running if you desire, but walking is something many moms enjoy, especially at this time of year with nice weather and spring flowers to see.

3. After Bedtime

Maybe you don’t feel like trying to squeeze a workout in during the chaos of the day, but what about after kid's bedtime? You may feel exhausted but even just a 30 minute workout can energize you and help relax you for bed. You deserve a little “me time” too! Another option is to wake up before your kids and start your morning off by breaking a sweat.

4. Make It a Family Affair

Here’s an idea that will not only give you time to work out, but also combine family time as well as help your kids burn energy. Choose an activity that your kids can enjoy with you! Swimming, volleyball, basketball, bike rides, or trail hikes are all activities that even small kids can get in on. Go for a walk or jog and let your kiddos tag along with their scooters and bikes.

5. Get Other Moms Involved

Do you have a few friends who would love to work out with you? Make it a group effort! You can all work out together and encourage each other along the way, while swapping out caring for the kids. Arrange times to meet up 3-4 times a week, and each time a different mom can watch the kids. Keep the workouts short to be considerate of each other.

6. Gym with Daycare

Did you know that some gyms have daycare facilities? So, bring your kiddo along with you to the gym! I have a gym in my town that does, but unfortunately I don’t live in town and can never motivate myself to drive that far for a workout I could do at home. But it's still a great option for other moms out there.

7. Family Members

My final tip for making time to work out without hiring a sitter is to ask family members to lend a hand. Perhaps a grandma, sister, or niece could help you out a couple of times each week. You could offer to do something in return, like run errands or make dinner, or perhaps your family would just be thrilled to spend some quality time with your little ones!

Working out can be a great stress reliever for mom, but funds don’t always allow for hiring a sitter on a regular basis. If you find yourself in this category, then these tips are for you!
