Should You Exercise in the Morning or Evening ?

It's an age old question - should you exercise in the morning or evening? I don't know about you, but work, volunteering and household chores dictate when and how I will exercise. Exercise research of late has truly made me feel better, as evening and night are now encouraged. So, I do not have to envy all those morning workout people.

After researching 11 websites, I have found, shockingly, that I am not alone. Research has shown to just get it done, stressing evenings, if not mornings.

To begin with, "Lower body temps make you sleepy while higher temps make you more active... A morning person’s body temp is highest in the afternoon, and a night person’s peaks in the evening," says askfitnesscoach.com

"Don’t sweat the time of day too much – just break a sweat whenever you can. 'When it comes to weight loss, the key is to exercise whenever you can get it done. It’s not always realistic to say you should exercise at a certain time. Exercise is beneficial regardless of the time of day you do it. That’s really what it boils down to'", according to Felicia Stoler, author and exercise physiologist, on droz.com

Again, according to superskinnyme.com it is stated that there is much debate about the ideal time to exercise but that whether early morning or late evening, the most important point is that you just do it.

In verywellfit.com , it is stated that late afternoon is best for exercise as research shows that the optimal time to exercise is when our body temperature is at its highest, which, for most people is 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. (body temperature is at its lowest just before waking). Yet, it is stated that morning exercisers are more consistent and even though afternoon exercise might be optimal from a physiological standpoint, research also shows that morning exercisers are more likely to stick to it than late-day athletes.

Further, on totalwellbeingdiet.com anytime is suggested again, stating that anytime is best because experts agree that the most important thing is not so much the time of day that you exercise, but that you actually do it – and do it on a regular basis and that means that anytime you can fit it into your day is ultimately the best time for you.

"The best time of day to work out is the time you're most likely to work out," Jordan told Business Insider. "What I like about working out in the afternoon is that I'm loose, I'm not typically as tired, and my muscles aren't stiff like they sometimes are in the morning," Jordan said. "Plus, it's a great break, and I get so much energy afterward." However, the website, businessinsider.com goes on to state that If you're partial to working out early in the day, however, there's great news for you as studies suggest that an early-morning workout on an empty stomach helps speed weight loss and boost energy levels by priming the body for an all-day fat burn.

On the same hand, "When it comes to exercise, the bottom line is that it is more important that we work out than when we work out. If we can't work out in the morning, or don't want to but can work out in the afternoon or evening, we should do it. Consistency is one of the most important considerations when it comes to when we work out," suggests weightloss.com.au

Following, it is stated in caloriesecrets.net to simply find what works best for you and stick to it for a number of weeks if you want to see results.

"Our bodies have conformed to a twenty-four hour light-to-dark cycle and each of us can determine when we are able to work at a particular task at peak performance. Ever hear someone say 'I'm just not a morning person?' That person should not try and squeeze in an exercise program early in the morning," says personalhealthzone.com

Then, in goaskalice.columbia.edu it is stated that the best time to exercise is the time that's right for you. Morning workouts really get some people going, release endorphins, and enhance mood. If you enjoy starting your day with a workout, or find that it's the only time you can fit it into your schedule, stick with it. Others find afternoon or evening workouts productive and stress-relieving.

Personally, I challenge you to do at least 10 minutes of ANY activity each day. This is what SparkGuy, creator of Sparkpeople.com, tells members all the time. Sparkpeople.com is a fitness and nutrition website that any person can access on-line for free. And yes, Sparkpeople is there 24 hours a day! So, no matter when you want, day or night, just log in!

In closing, I am sharing a quote by Steven Aldana. "Most of all, find a time that helps you make your exercise a regular, consistent part of your life," says Steven Aldana, a professor of lifestyle medicine in the department of exercise sciences at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. "This is more important than the time of day," emphasizes webmd.com

Good luck!
