Dance Class

Taking a dance class is one of the ways to get in some exercise and have some fun as well. There are so many different dance genres to choose from, and you can pick the one that sounds the most fun to you. A few of the choices you have when thinking about what type of dance class you would like to take include hip-hop, jazz, modern, ballet, African, and even salsa. The great thing about taking a dance class is you get to move around to great music. Often, you will be concentrating on the steps and listening to the music so intently that you won’t even realize you worked out! Plus, taking a dance class is a wonderful way to meet new people and have a new experience. You just happen to get a good work out at the same time.

Gardening

If you are a person who loves gardening and would rather spend hours in your garden than in the gym, you will be happy to know you can. Gardening is a wonderful way to get in physical activity, and it burns quite a few calories. A person who weighs 120 pounds can burn 257 calories just by gardening for one hour! I am sure all of you garden lovers are happy to hear that. Aside from burning calories, gardening also works your muscles. It requires a lot of strength to carry around huge bags of dirt!

Hiking

I absolutely love hiking, and I would rather spend an afternoon hiking in the mountains than inside on an elliptical machine. It is peaceful to be in nature. The trees and mountains are so beautiful. Obviously, when I am hiking, the last thing I am thinking about is working out however, hiking does provide a really great workout. Generally, you have to go up and down hills, and on more rugged trails you have to climb over rocks. An hour or two of this can burn a lot of calories. If you do like hiking and live in a city, you should know there are usually urban trails for you to hike. All you have to do is contact your parks and recreation department to find them.

Swimming

Swimming in a pool or the ocean is an excellent way to get in some exercise. You can swim laps or you can play games in the water with your friends. Some of my favorite games to play in the water include Marco Polo and diving to the bottom of the pool to pick up rings. These are both great ways to get some physical activity without thinking about it. When you are swimming or playing games in the water, keep in mind that the water provides resistance. This means you are getting more of a work out than you might realize.

5

Beach Volleyball

I don’t know very many people who don’t like playing beach volleyball. It is just so much fun to play volleyball in the sand. It is also a chance to get together with your friends and have a good time. There just happens to be the added bonus of getting a workout. Playing volleyball for one hour will burn 187 calories! Burning calories aside, playing beach volleyball is a lot of fun. If you don’t live by an ocean you can still play beach volleyball. Most towns and cities have sand volleyball courts that you can find at a local park.

Playing at the Playground

Speaking of going to the park, another way you can sneak in some exercise and have fun as well is by playing at the playground. I realize it may have been a while since you played at the playground, but, even if you are an adult, you can still have fun at your local playground. Just spending time with your friends on the swings gives you a little exercise, and the monkey bars are a great way to work out your arms. Of course, you want to be respectful of the kids, but you can still have a fun time and get in a little physical activity.

7

Playing Tag

If playing at the park isn’t your thing, but you still want to get in touch with your inner child, I highly recommend playing tag. Playing tag is one of the best ways to sprint without even thinking about it. As someone who does not like running, I can tell you that when I play tag I don’t even think about it. Playing tag with friends is so much fun, and such a simple way to get some physical activity. Just think how fun it would be spend a weekend afternoon at the park with your friends having a healthy picnic and playing tag.

Exercising doesn’t always have to take place at a gym. It can take place just about anywhere, and it can even be fun. If you think outside of the box, you can find a lot of fun ways to work out that will leaving you feeling happy and like you accomplished something. What do you do to have fun while you exercise?
