If like me you have been inspired by the Olympics🏅or have made the resolution to get fit💪, taking up a new sport is a fabulous decision to make. It’s great going to the gym or working out at home, but there are extra benefits to getting involved in something you grow to love – not least the social and motivational aspects. Whether you want to take up🏌golf or ice skating ⛸here’s the important info you need to get your started on a new and exciting journey into the world of sport. ⚽️ 🏀 🏈 ⚾️ 🎾

1. Find Your Local Clubs to Get the Ball Rolling⚽️

If you know you want to get in to sports but aren’t sure about what you actually want to take up, then it’s always a good idea to do some research and find out what kinds of sports clubs are near where you live. Location will obviously be a big factor in your decision, so it’s good to have a knowledge of all of the different opportunities that are close to you. You will be surprised by just how many different kinds of activities take place around you every day!

2. Start on the Bottom of the Ladder ‘Cos It’s Okay to Be a Beginner🏂

Let’s be real, no athlete is at expert or Olympic level the very first day they start their sport. It takes time and practice and a lot of hard work! Don’t be disheartened if you think that you are not fit enough or talented enough to play the sport that you are interested in. Everybody starts out as a beginner. There is no shame in starting at the bottom of the pile and trying to work your way up!

3. Share Your Experiences on Your Social Media🚵

You should try to be vocal about your new sporty passion on your social media. It’s both a way to keep yourself motivated and also to perhaps get your friends and family involved too. The more people you know who are in to sports and fitness, the more likely you are to stay on track with your own pursuits and get even fitter and healthier in the process.

All you need to do is go to somewhere like YouTube to discover sporting stories that are so motivational and inspiring that they will make you tear up! Amazing Olympic stories like that of Kerri Strug, Derek Redmond and any Paralympian will fill you with such passion and love for the act of human achievement that you will be bursting at the seams to get out there and show what you can do!

Like I said before, nobody is born an expert at any sport. The beauty of the process is in the practice and commitment that allows you to slowly start seeing an improvement in your talents and your results. Nobody is handed anything in life for free, so if you really love a sport and are dedicated to improving your fitness, the only way to achieve success is to practice, practice, practice!
