If you live in a big city like New York, like me, then you probably don’t have much to worry about when it comes to finding out sneaky ways to be more active. Walking is basically the best way to navigate the city anyway! However, if you live in a small town, or simply can’t fit workouts into your daily routine, worry not! I have put together a great list of sneaky ways to be more active that should help set everything in motion!

1

Take the Stairs

I’m sure you hear this one all the time as one of the best sneaky ways to be more active on a daily basis! But, there’s definitely truth to the phrase! While it’s perfectly okay to take the elevator/escalator on occasion, taking the stairs will help get your blood circulating, increase endurance over time, and just promotes overall activeness that’s easy to incorporate into any lifestyle!

2

Take 5 Minute Breaks

This is especially true for people who have sedentary lifestyles, or for those who work at desks, sitting, for long periods of time. Taking a 5 minute break every 3 hours helps to improve circulation. It could also help to reduce stress and improve well-being. Wouldn’t it be great to get back to work and feel refreshed? Sounds good to me!

3

Avoid Takeout

If you want to order takeout on your lunch break, try to remember all of the things you’re missing out on. Nice weather, wind in your hair, and a nice walk to the restaurant! Walking to the restaurant instead of ordering out is a great way to fit a little bit of activity into your routine. Plus, you get to stretch your legs if they’ve been in one position all day.

4

Walk Everywhere

I know that it seems obvious, but it’s a surefire way to be more active! If you live somewhere where driving is a necessity, I understand walking may not be possible all the time. But, for places that might be close to your home, like the grocery store, try to walk there! Or, if it’s too far to walk, you can try parking the car far from the location, so you’d have a while to walk before you reach it!

5

Get a Pedometer

And, while we’re still on the topic of walking, you should invest in a pedometer too! Not only will a pedometer monitor the steps you’re taking, it will motivate you to set and achieve new goals. They even have pedometers that track your steps, like the one I found on fitbit.com that lets you sync the device online and compare and connect with other people. It’s a great way to meet new people, get active together and ignite friendly competitions.

You Are Your Own Gym

It’s an app that helps you create your own workout that is really easy to do at home. You can do them for as little as 15 minutes as soon as you wake up to give you some pep and energy during the day! I have a friend who has used it, and it has done wonders for him and his weight loss. The app has over 200 different body weight exercises that’ll definitely increase activity. It’s really helpful because they have videos that show you exactly what to do and how long to do it. It’s versatile too, because if you get tired or too used to one set of exercises, you can switch them out for new ones!

7

Stretch Daily

Stretching on a daily basis can have a lot of great benefits for the body. It helps to ease muscle tension, back pains, and in some cases, can even reduce stress. It’d be great if you could go the extra mile and try to learn some Yoga poses that stretch the body. Yoga is good for the body, mind and soul, so it couldn’t hurt to try!

I tried to find the simplest and sneakiest ways to be more active that can fit easily into any lifestyle. I know life can be hectic at times, and being active may not always be at the top of the list of things to do, but it’s really essential for your health. If you could try to include at least one of these tips into your daily routine, I’m sure it’ll make you feel so much better, both physically and mentally! Are there any ways you try to be active during the day?
